Description
Spacebridge is a Quebec-based company, with offices around the world, that builds high-end, enterprise grade broadband solutions. Their target customers are involved in enterprise & broadband, defence & government, cellular, mobility, IOT, broadcasting. Examples include banks, retail businesses, oil exploration and gas stations not in urban centres.
Their technology includes VSAT Hubs, gateways and terminals capable of point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and mesh communication. Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) is a two-way satellite ground station less than three meters tall. It transmits and receives narrow and broadband data to satellites in geosynchronous orbit. While extremely useful in areas with little infrastructure, the trade-off is round-trip communication latency.1
Spacebridge's use of Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC) refers to satellite communication technology where data or voice is assigned a dedicated bandwidth channel. While dedication decreases efficiency compared to switching between channels that are not in use, it increases security, especially in defence applications where encryption is always enabled.2 The company overcomes this limitation by dynamically allocating bandwidth based on demand and switching between dedicated and shared access when the need arises.
