Description
Metaspectral started as an AI company focused on storing digital imagery. Their pivot into earth observation (EO) applies artificial intelligence techniques to compress and analyze hyperspectral imagery. They developed hardware-accelerated methods to compress and analyze images with deep learning on orbit while the stream is being captured, improving performance and reducing data transmission costs and delays.
While hyperspectral technology is currently new and expensive, it is creating new opportunities both stand-alone and combined with other scanning technologies are making experts very excited. The space-based applications to agriculture include tracking ammonia emissions to understand how changes in farming practices impact the environment.
