Description
The Trottier Space Institute (formerly the McGill Space Institute) engages in interdisciplinary research. They bring together astrophysics, planetary science, atmospheric sciences, and astrobiology, among areas of research, to produce unique results. Twenty-three professors, twenty-one post-doctoral researchers and visitors, fifty-seven grad students and twenty-five undergrad students focus on the following research themes:
- Early Universe
- Cosmology
- Galaxy Evolution
- Astrophysics
- Nuclear Astrophysics
- Compact Objects
- Planetary Science
- Exoplanets
- Planetary Analogues
- Astrobiology
- Microbial Diversity in Extreme Environments
- The Search for Extraterrestrial Biosignatures.
The Trottier Space Institute represents how space has been done for the last 60 years: creating space for intellectuals to do research and non-commercial development of technology and instrumentation. Such fundamental research plays a crucial role in society, but will play a far less important role in the commercialization of space in the coming years.
